The idea of resurrection was around in Egypt. Then it moved to Rome with Mithras. Then it came to Christianity. Before the resurrection, there was astrotheology. Pagans did not reject Christianity. Government did. Organized Christianity and Judaism capitalized on persecution as a form of trauma bonding. Rome was all religions rolled into a ball. Or as some of us call it, globalism.
